Schedule of Events
8am –ongoing Hawk Watching (mid field viewing area)
8am to 9:30 & Bird Walk led by members of the New Haven Bird 9:30 AM to 10:45 Club.
8am to 10:00 am Ct. Ornithological Association-Hawk and
Songbird Flight I.D. Workshop (pavilion).
8:30am to 11:00am Bird Banding Demonstration with Conn. Audubon Society.
9:30 am to 10:30 am Children’s Bird Walk Children accompanied by adults will search for fall migrants in the park.
9am to 2 pm Open House at the Ranger Station
Featuring Long Island sound Creatures and Hawk
Specimens from UCONN’s Natural History Museum
9am to 11:00 am & Lighthouse Tours: Climb to the top of this historic 1pm to 2:00pm landmark for magnificent views of New Haven Harbor.
9am to 12noon Butterfly Garden Activities: Monarch Butterfly Tagging, Butterfly I.D. Caterpillar Display and Children’s Activities.
11am to 2:00pm Ride the Historic Carousel
11am to 12noon Skyhunters in Flight:
1:15 pm to 2:15 pm Falconry demonstration by Brian Bradley.
12Noon to 1pm Live Raptor Show presented by Wind over Wings
This Event is Free, but we will gladly accept $ donations to help insure the continuation of this annual celebration.
Please park in paved parking lots and walk to the mid-field pavilion. Information booths, events and walks are located there.
This event is a cooperative effort sponsored by the New Haven Parks, Recreation and Tree Dept., New Haven Bird Club, Connecticut Butterfly Assn., Audubon Ct., Menunkatuck Audubon Society, Connecticut Audubon Society , Northeast Hawkwatch , and the Ct. Ornithological Association.
Directions: From the east: take I-95 south to the Frontage Rd. exit which is exit 51. Stay straight to go onto Frontage Rd. for 0.7 miles. Turn left onto Route 337/Townsend Ave. 2.2 miles. Turn right onto Lighthouse Rd. Follow this road until it ends which will lead you into the park. Once in the park, keep to the left and the butterfly garden will be on your right. Park in lot adjacent to garden.
From the west: take I-95 north to exit 50 to Lighthouse Point, which is Woodward Ave. Continue onto Main St. Turn right onto Route 337/Toensend Ave. 2.2 miles. Turn right onto Lighthouse Rd. Follow this road until it ends which will lead you into the park. Once in the park, keep to the left and the butterfly garden will be on your right. Park in lot adjacent to garden.
