Field Notes
8/1/14-12/31/14

After dropping in 2013, Giant Swallowtail numbers rebounded in 2014.  There were 58 reports of Giant Swallowtails during this reporting period in 2014 compared with 32 reports during the corresponding 2013 reporting period.  The last Giant Swallowtail for the year was reported on September 17th.  For the second consecutive year, southern  immigrants appeared in the state in small numbers as evidenced by the fact that there were only two reports of Fiery Skipper, two reports of Common Buckeye, one report of Cloudless Sulphur and no reports of Variegated Fritillary during this reporting period.  Monarch numbers are beginning to rebound.  The high count of 79 Monarchs was reported on September 21st.  After a gap of over a month, the final sighting of 2014 was a report of Orange Sulphur on December 15th.
