Field Notes
8/1/10-12/31/10

Little Yellow, first reported on July 22nd, staged a notable immigration into the state, with a high count of 4+ individuals seen on August 20th and September 5th, respectively.  In what appears to be an annual event, Sachems, first reported on August 14th, appeared at coastal locations in numbers and continued to fly into early November, with the last ones reported on November 10th.  However, other species of southern skippers were reported in the state in only small numbers.  Fiery Skipper was first reported on August 7th, and continued to be reported in small numbers through October 10th.  Common Checkered Skipper was reported on September 4th and September 29th, respectively.  Ocola Skipper and Long-tailed Skipper were not reported at all in 2010.  2010 was another mediocre year for migrating Monarchs.  The highest reported total was 99 individuals reported on September 26th.  Northern Pearly Eye was reported on the extraordinarily late date of September 11th.
