President Dori Sosensky called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. She described upcoming projects involving the clearing of invasives and a planting party at the Lighthouse Point Park garden.

Vice president Larry Gall spoke on the upcoming program scheduled for May 15 on the recetnly published "Connecticut Butterfly Atlas."

Conservation chair Christine Cook described the work being done on the Charles Lee Remington butterfly habitat at Yale, and Education Chair Ruthie Mohr poke on the habitat development projects in which she is participating

Nominating chair pro tem Diane Aams then presented the following slate of candidates:

President Dori Sosensky
Vice president Larry Gall
Treasurer Rich Chyinski
Secretary Roy Zartarian


A motion to suspend the rules and to direct the secretary to cast one ballot for the slate was made, seconded and carried.

Larry Gall then introduced Dr. Antónia Monteiro who has been working on the evolutionary genetics, developmental biology, and behavioral ecology of butterfly wing patterns ever since she was an undergraduate student.

Dr. Monteiro spoke on how and why butterflies and moths display such diverse wing patterns. She illustrated the genetic foundation of wing patterning and described the results of her research into the evolution and functions of wing patterns.
